April 21st - April 25th

Postby CORNFED on Thu Apr 01, 2010 1:19 pm

What up all? I ran across the site and was pretty stoked. I live in Des Moines, Iowa and considering a move to Austin. I will be in town from April 21st - April 25th and bringing my board... I was curious where some sweet spots in town were to skate?

Thank YOU
Nick

hey man, just wondering what kind of skating your into specifically... there are a lot of guys that will go skate downtown (garages etc) on monday nights or whatever and there’s also some DH and some park skating folk out here. If you just go to Wahoos fish tacos downtown you will definitely meet an employee who can take you were you need to go. Just sit at the bar and mention your looking to skate with some people.

that would be my advice. what kind of board do you have?

New to this group/forum. Need instructon--52 years old. Hadn't skated since I was a kid (and that was before urethane wheels) until last year when I discovered what long boards were (some guys in my neighborhood), impulsively ordered a complete and a helmet from Sector9. Then just started skating (and falling) on my own with help from YouTube posts.

Getting a little better at descending hills, can foot-drag stop, and 180 kick turn. Can't slide. Now have strength and stamina to push for long distances (commute to work) and push up all the hills I skate down (neighborhood hills, not long mountain descents). Where do I get help to improve skills and technique?

Thanks for any assistance!

skate, skate, skate.... with people better then you. skating all day will no doubt progress your riding dramatically, but skating with someone who is skilled makes it loads easier. link up with your local crews, and on here. talk to gphillips, if he cant skate with you, he knows someone who can.

Thanks. I do some garages, but mainly some small hills and cruise around town here in Des Moines. Unfortunately, I won't be in town on a Monday... still cool to go to Wahoos any other night?

I ride an Original Apex 37

Well you will be only 1 our away from the SLABFEST in San Antonio going on April 24th I believe. If you have a day you can blow you might want to head down there. I am sure some of us will be down there that day. Read about it in our upcoming events section or in the Texas and Southwest region of the forums on Silverfish, the long boarding community.
